This year our tour went to the Ise Peninsula, where we visited Ise Shrine, the most important Shinto shrine, although a typhoon caused us to miss the inner shrine. We stayed in the area at the magnificent Western-style hotel, Shima Kanko. We were not previously aware of this place, which played host to the G-7 meetings in May 2016. The hotel is located in the Ise-Shima National Park, and the Bay Suites all have gorgeous views of an inland bay (except during torrential rains).

As you would expect, the food is exceptional, at least the Japanese food. We had a lovely
kaiseki dinner our first night.

And a beautiful and tasty Japanese breakfast the next morning.

The second night we ate at the hotel's French restaurant, La Mer, and were disappointed. But more on that in another post.
If you get to this part of Japan -- and you should -- Shima Kanko is a must!
